The Agawam Community Center plays an important role to the residents of our local community. It is a safe place for everyone in the community to learn and grow together. The Agawam Community Center is culturally diverse, self-sustainable, accessible, as well as a centralized space that acts as the backbone of our community. The Community Center is a place where our local residents can come together to learn & grow as a family. Everyone is unique and has the capability of making a difference. We aim to help everyone find their strengths and weaknesses so the community can grow together as a whole.
Our mission as a non-profit organization is to give back to the community as well as promote, enable and facilitate activities that focus on and address the education, training, employment, welfare, health, social, cultural and recreational needs of the local community and district.
We are a community-based organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place. With the help of our tireless staff, we organize fundraisers, exciting community-building events, and in-depth training sessions for our volunteers.
Are you passionate about what we're doing? Let us know! We are always looking for volunteers to help us make our vision a reality. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you. We're excited to have you join the team!
As a child leaving behind refugee camps in Thailand and Laos, I came to America with my family in 1980. The Vietnam War had ended and Asia was beginning to settle down after years of war. Being a child that saw life in a refugee camp, I also saw America's unlimited opportunity.
I grew up in Springfield, and then became the first in my family to go to college. I eventually become a senior software analyst at UnitedHealthcare.
Later, however, I founded Agawam’s only boxing and kickboxing school, realizing that my true passion was to help people grow and reach new heights in their personal development.
After seeing the success of my students and myself, I launched the nonprofit Agawam Community Center in 2018. I envision the community center to be a gathering place for education, support and growth.
The community center is a humbling and rewarding project for me because to me it represents "America”, the land of freedom and unlimited opportunities I remember when I arrived - and a way to give back to my community, just like America gave me an opportunity to grow. Through the community center project, I hope to fulfill my promise to myself to give back to the people who helped me when I was a kid coming here.
We are dedicated to improving the lives of those in our community. Your contribution today helps us make a difference.
